Welcome to Southeast Polk High School!

GoldsmithI am excited to be a part of the excellent team at Southeast Polk High School! Southeast Polk has a reputation for challenging students through a variety of course offerings, and preparing all students for life after high school. I have a passion for STEM education, and Southeast Polk has proven to be a statewide leader in providing K-12 STEM opportunities to students throughout their K-12 education.

I spend much of my day directly involved with our students, staff, and families in an effort to engage all students in a challenging curriculum delivered through quality instruction.  Specifically, I oversee Social Studies, Business, Industrial Technology, Family/Consumer Sciences, Special Education, and Building Safety and Security, amongst other duties.  I enjoy working with the students, staff, and community at Southeast Polk!

Originally from Waterloo, Iowa, I graduated as Waterloo East High School’s Valedictorian. I attended the University of Northern Iowa, before transferring and finishing my undergraduate degree at Upper Iowa. I taught Business Education courses for 4 years at East Waterloo, before moving to the Des Moines metro. Since in this area, I’ve taught for 3 years at Norwalk High School while earning my Masters in Ed Leadership and Policy Studies at Iowa State University. Before coming to SEP, I finished my sixth year in Ankeny, where I was a teacher, instructional coach, Dean of Students, and most recently, Assistant Principal.
My wife, Holly, and our daughters, Bailey and Hilary, currently reside in Waukee. When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, bike riding, traveling, reading, golfing, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes.
