We are excited to announce Anthony Spurgetis as Southeast Polk’s new Chief Operating Officer/HR. With a strong professional background and a passion for serving educational communities, Spurgetis will oversee several key areas, including human resources for classified staff, Buildings and Grounds, Food and Nutrition, Energy, and Transportation, as well as partner with the SEP Chief Financial Officer in the supervision of Benefits and Payroll.
Professional Background
Mr. Spurgetis brings 14 years of experience in human resources, including 12 years dedicated to education, most recently serving as Chief Human Resources Officer for the Waterloo Community School District. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Iowa and a master’s in Human Resources and Employment Relations from Penn State University.
In addition to his academic credentials, Mr. Spurgetis has earned three HR certifications: Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), Professional in Human Resources (PHR), and Professional Human Capital Leader in Education (pHCLE). His extensive expertise will be an asset as he works to support the operational success of our district.

Beyond the Office
When he’s not working, Spurgetis enjoys following all things Iowa Hawkeyes, reading, traveling, and spending time outdoors. Most importantly, he values time with his partner and his dog.
