We are excited to welcome our new Transportation Manager, Brent Houck, who joined Southeast Polk at the start of this school year.
In his role, his main focus is providing additional support for our students on the buses. Each morning and afternoon, he rides a different bus, depending on where he’s needed most. His presence ensures that our students have the best possible experience on their daily commute. He is also involved in training our bus drivers, particularly on how to address and manage student behavior.
His hands-on approach sets him apart—he enjoys being present and involved, always in the thick of the action. Prior to joining Southeast Polk, he was a Des Moines convenience store supervisor, driving a delivery truck. His background also includes valuable experience working for Des Moines Public Schools as a special education associate, supporting students with severe behavior disorders.
“I feel like I’m taking all of my work experiences from the last 16 years and using them in this position, reaching back to use the techniques I learned working in the classroom. I enjoy how this position is purpose-driven, and I want to make a positive impact on the families in our district. I’m so excited to be here!” he shared.
Brent and his wife live in the district, and they have two daughters who attend Delaware Elementary. In his free time, you’ll find him enjoying the outdoors, whether hiking or paddle boarding.
We’re thrilled to have him as part of the Southeast Polk Ram Fam and look forward to the positive impact he will continue to make!
