Mrs. Parker’s 5th Graders and Mrs. Riordan’s Kindergarteners read the book, Balloons Over Broadway, a story about the man who created the Macy Day Parade Floats, and decided that they wanted to create their own floats. A Kindergartener was paired up with a 5th grader – who had to create several ideas of different float options. The pair would have to agree upon the design then work together to make it come to life. They had to create it and figure out how to make it move on a parade route. The students worked together in the Four Mile S.T.E.A.M. room (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) using only items that were donated from Four Mile families.
