Southeast Polk Jr. High math teacher, Mr. Tim Harvey, has been working very hard at the SEP Junior High garden and greenhouse this spring and summer!
You may be familiar with our SEP Jr. High Garden because they hold a plant sale each spring. The garden contains over 50 varieties of tomatoes, 25 varieties of peppers, cucumbers, squash, eggplant, and over 12 kinds of herbs. There are close to 500 plants in the garden. Each day Mr. Harvey picks the produce from the garden to deliver to Caring Hands Food Pantry in Altoona. Caring Hands, located at 201 9th St. NE in Altoona, serves Southeast Polk District residents on Mondays and Wednesdays. To learn more about Caring Hand, follow this link: h
He has delivered about 12 pounds of squash, close to 100 pounds of cucumbers, 100 gallons of peppers and a practically impossible to determine number of pounds of tomatoes to Caring Hands so far this summer. Here are a few pictures of the garden’s produce that were delivered. Don’t they look delicious?!
Mr. Harvey also collects the seeds from each variety to grow in the future.
