Amy Anderson, our district At-Risk Coordinator, recently challenged our SEPHS Rise class, a project-based learning course taught by Andrea McGee (HS business teacher). Mrs. Anderson’s request was to make online several calming resources available to our students and staff so the Rise students created the Southeast Polk Virtual Calming Room!
The Calming Room was designed by Brome Churchill, Zachary DeLawyer, Grace Gustafson, Dakota Haubach, and Abigail Risius, all SEP Rise high school students. SEP Rise is a class for juniors and seniors that allows students to work with business partners to get hands-on experience in the “real world.” SEP Rise students earn five college credits in the first semester of the class and three college credits for the second semester. SEP Rise can help anyone going in any field but mostly helps our students interested in business majors.
This new calming site has links to fun and calming videos, games, music and mindfulness exercises for students. It also lists helpful resources such as our Student Assistance Program.
The students from the SEP Rise class did tremendous work on this, so we invite you to check it out and use it with your students, families, and even for yourself!
