New this year, Willowbrook Elementary is launching a student leadership program that allows students to fill job roles of interest to them within the building. The program helps to build a positive culture where students feel empowered and know that they play an important role within the school.
Willowbrook Principal, Nathan Ballagh, shared, “Our student leadership program is designed to involve students in what happens in our school each day and teach them the skills they need to be successful in college or their desired career. We know that when we empower our students to be a part of the culture of our school, great things will happen and our students will be excited to come to school each day. This will ultimately lead to accomplishing our goal of improving student achievement.”
On Wednesday, September 25, Willowbrook Elementary students participated in a virtual job fair. Via Chromebooks, students were given the opportunity to learn more about the leadership jobs that are offered in the building. Later in the week, a link for an online job application will be sent to classroom teachers for students to fill out. Students will be able to select a job they are interested in and explain why they would be a good fit for the job. They will apply for three different job categories to help ensure students get one of their preferences. Once the jobs are all filled, student leadership groups will meet on the fourth Wednesday of every month with their staff sponsors to make plans, ask questions and review job duties.
