The Southeast Polk Community school district will receive $49,900 from Facebook as part of their Community Action Grants Program for 2018. Over the past three years, Facebook has awarded more than $300,000 in grants. The recipients have implemented innovative programs and utilized grant dollars to increase STEM education, connected people online and off, and put the power of technology in people’s hands. January 31, 2018, they announced 11 grant recipients of our 2018 Facebook Altoona Data Center Community Action Grants. In total, these organizations will receive $136,970.
Centennial and Willowbrook Elementary Schools – $30,000 Centennial and Willowbrook have joined the district’s efforts to expand STEM curriculum in grades K-5. Funds will be utilized towards the purchase of Project Lead the Way robotics kits and laptops/tablets to kick off the K-5 STEM programs.
Southeast Polk High School – $15,000 The purpose of the grant is to purchase digital broadcasting equipment to add video/broadcast curriculum and assist in district communications. Classes will utilize the equipment to learn video editing and production while helping to communicate the activities of the district.
Southeast Polk Junior High School – $4,900 Expand current STEM-based Project Lead the Way Makerspace program for all classes through the purchase of activity kits, materials, tools & portable furniture.
