We know that for each child, learning starts when basic needs are met. We’re set up to serve the whole child — eliminating barriers to learning so that each child can freely pursue their potential. Services are conveniently located in the buildings, making it easy to keep students up-to-date on their academic and mental health needs.

We provide an education for almost 7400 preschool through 12th grade students daily.
We employ approximately 1200 employees.
Our Transportation Department employs 54 staff and provides safe transportation for roughly 65% of students every day. Did we mention that the SEP District is 114 square miles, and our transportation department covers 870,000+ miles per year?
We have 56 well-trained Food and nutrition Professionals who prepare and serve healthy meals twice a day every day of the school year, meeting and exceeding all USDA nutritional requirements. They serve over 6,000 healthy lunches to our students every day.
It is important to ensure that every student has state-of-the-art technology, so we provide a Chromebook to every student from Kindergarten Through 12th Grade. We call that 1:1.
Our average elementary class size is 22 students.
Our average secondary teacher-to-student ratio is 1:17.
National Niche School Report Card gives SEP an A-.
Jr. High Principal Mike Dailey was named 2023-24 National PLTW Administrator of the Year.
Mitchellville teacher Krystal Colbert was named 2023-24 Iowa Teacher of the Year.
Four Mile’s Dr. Kim McCoy-Parker & Delaware’s Carrie Anstine were named 2022-23 National PLTW Teachers.
Altoona, Mitchellville and Runnells have been named National Blue Ribbon Elementary Schools.
Southeast Polk Community School District is a National Solution Tree Model PLC District.
Clay, Centennial, Four Mile and Mitchellville were named 2022-23 PLTW Distinguished Launch Schools.
Clay Elementary won the 2022 Healthiest State Initiative.
