Highlights from the December 8, 2020, Southeast Polk Board of Education Meeting

Approvals

  • The Board approved the consent agenda items.
  • The Board approved the next meeting dates of January 7, 2021, and January 21, 2021.
  • The Board approved the recommended bus bids with Hoglund Bus & Truck for one special needs equipped bus with air conditioning, four 77-passenger buses without air conditioning, and two 84-passenger buses without air conditioning for a total of $837,905.
  • The Board approved the recommendation to use The Weitz Company for construction management services for the 6-7 middle-level building upon a mutually agreed upon contract.
  • The Board approved the agreement with Harold “Bill” Good for owner’s representative services for capital improvement projects including the construction of the 6-7 middle-level building, multipurpose stadium, administration building, and warehouse and expansion of the bus parking area.
  • The Board approved Ric Powell as the Board Policy Committee representative.
  • The Board approved the extension of temporary staffing adjustments for Buildings and Grounds for additional custodial assistance through March 19, 2021.
  • The Board approved to implement the proposal that would have the district hiring up to 11 substitute teachers for the last 100 days of school without depleting its existing substitute pool.
  • The Board approved to return elementary buildings to the Hybrid 1 Learning Model December 14, 2020 – Jan. 15, 2021. All Secondary buildings will move to Hybrid 2 Learning Model December 14, 2020 – Jan. 15, 2021. Starting the second semester on Jan. 19, Pk -12 will be in Hybrid 1 until the end of the school year.

  • Kevin Baccam, Executive Director of Business Services, provided an update on Dropout Prevention/At-Risk Planning
  • Dr. Dirk Halupnik, Superintendent, provided information on how to handle potential Snow Days for this school year.
